A member asked:

Can pill cam diagnose stomach cancer, chrohn's, or colon cancer? is this test just as good as getting a upper endoscopy and colonoscopy?

Cam pill: Capsule endoscopy takes thousands of pictures of your intestinal tract It is used to survey the small intestine primarily as upper and lower endoscopy don't visualize the small intestine. The capsule camera can detect Crohn's disease and tumors of the small intestine. Stomach cancer is better diagnosed by scoping which also allows biopsies to be taken The same applies to colon cancer.

Small bowel: Pill cam will cover the unreachable portions of the bowel, mostly small bowel in trying to visualize structural abnormalities. Upper endoscopy and colonoscopy remain standard for upper gi and colon.
