Different strains: There are many strains of Staph Aureus and best to guide antibiotic therapy would be on a culture and sensitivity test as highly resistant strains have developed over the last few decades, grouped under Methicillin Resistant Staph Aureus or MRSA. Empirical use of antibiotics is becoming a public health issue.
