A member asked:

I recently had some blood work done in the er. i was looking at the results today and noticed that my platelet count was 486. should i be concerned?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

A little: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, iron deficiency is common in menstruating women and is commonly associated with elevated platelet counts. Take oral iron and multivitamins. Wish you good health!
