It then gets approved by the governmental agency (FDA in the US). Finally, the vaccine gets mass-produced, packaged, shipped to clinics, and becomes available to the public. Many vaccines are available for a variety of diseases at this time.

COVID 19 vaccine: Clearly you wrote in a while back, so here is an update. Pfizer and Moderna have both rolled out in this country with emergency use authorization (EUA). Per Dr. Fauci, Johnson & Johnson 1 dose vaccine might be approved in as little as a couple of weeks. Novavax also has a vaccine in trials.
