A member asked:

Why might my bottom teeth start to space between each other all of a sudden when i have a permanent retainer on the bottom teeth. i have never had a problem with gapping on the bottom teeth. ?

Spacing: Permanent retainer probably loose. If damaged, the wire could be causing untoward movement of your lower from teeth. Best advice: Return to your treating specialist Orthodontist for review. If that's not possible, see the specialist Orthodontist recommended by your current General Dentist. Retainer wire will probably have to be removed, teeth straightened, and a new retainer made.

Diastemas: Diastemas can occur for a number of different reasons, including tongue thrusting and debonding of your retainer. Other than death and taxes, nothing in life is permanent. Please see your orthodontist to be re-evaluated.
