A member asked:

Recent annual lab work noted a few atypical lymphocytes. my doctor was not concerned at all since all cell counts were in normal range except platelets, which have been low since my youth. should i be concerned? what causes few atypical lymphocytes?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

See below: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, if you are not satisfied with the care your doctor is providing it is appropriate to see a different one. A few atypical lymphocytes per se are not a cause for concern.
