A member asked:

I had a c-section about a week ago and was advised that i can occasionally take a spoon of liquid paraffin to assist with constipation and healing, will this have any effect the medication i'm currently taking (synaleve & voltaren 100 suppositories)?

Stool softener: liquid paraffin like mineral oil is a substance that is occasionally prescribed for constipation. One of the biggest drawbacks, though, is that it can interfere with absorption of other medications and nutrients. A better option would be a stool softener which attracts water molecules to the stool to make it softer and easier to pass. You will also have less anal leakage with the stool softener.
