A member asked:

I had a routine/standard cbc with diffs from quest diagnostics. would it detect abnormal cells if they were present or do you need to order a specific test for that?

Usually: Although much of the tests are automated at these big labs the system is sensitive enough to flag unusual results so the medical director can review them. The ordering doctor will also review them in the context of why they were ordered in the first place. If they want additional testing they can order them.

Agree with Dr. F: Why was the test done? If it was done to test for a blood disorder, your doctor can ask for a manual review of peripheral blood smear. Wish you good health!
