Genital symptoms: If his soreness includes blisters or sores of the genital area, it's probably herpes, the main cause of genital ulcer disease. If "sore" means penile discharge or painful urination, gonorrhea or chlamydia are likely. Other causes of genital pain, soreness, etc include syphilis, yeast (thrush), and others. For all these, partners can be infected without symptoms. You both need professional care.
