Polycystic renal: Your baby is now considered full term and has been diagnosed with polycystic renal disease based on a prenatal ultrasound. Sometimes the test performed before birth may not be accurate. A repeat renal imaging test and renal function testing is indicated post delivery. A hearing test is routinely performed pre discharge from the nursery. Once the diagnosis is confirmed, a renal specialist advised.

Depends/no: During pregnancy your placenta makes sure most of the kidney work is done by you, not the fetus, & there is no indication they would be hurting from the defect, if confirmed. Kidney cysts in the newborn can have varying impact depending on why they are there, how many, one or both kidneys, etc. You work this out with a kidney specialist & geneticist after baby arrives.
