A member asked:

I am on metronidazole vaginal gel for 5 nights. i have paused breastfeeding & have been pumping & dumping my milk. however, my daughter wont sleep unless i nurse her to sleep. can this small amount of milk affect her negatively in the future?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Nursing issue: The current expert consensus concerning vaginal metronidazole and breast feeding is that very little of the drug is excreted in breast milk, so you can continue nursing without any real risk. The manufacturer of the drug advises against nursing while on the drug, but subsequent research has not shown any true risk to doing so.
