Abnormal bleeding: This type of bleeding is usually due to subtle hormonal abnormalities in the hypothalamic pituitary endocrine axis, the control center for all hormones in the body. If this pattern persists, I would consider switching to an oral contraceptive instead of the IUD for birth control. At some point a uterine ultrasound might be helpful, and with increased heavy bleeding sometimes a D & C is necessary.
