Usually: The goal of laser vision correction is to help you become more independent of needing glasses. For most people, this means being able to see far away. Your lasik surgeon can help review your needs to determine if you are a good candidate for surgery.

Yes: Lasik corrects refractive error, near or far sightedness. Not all patients are good candidates. Look for a reputable surgeon near your location that sees his/her own pre and postoperative patients. Avoid corporate laser centers with pressure sale tactics. Remember, this is surgery and there always is a risk for complication. Also when you are in your forties you will probably need reading glasses.
