Tick: I get ticks crawling on my skin when I go hiking all the time. I pull them off and dispose of them. If the tick is actually embedded in skin that could pose a health risk. Do you know the type of tick? You can often look at photos on-line to determine fi it is a type of tick that is associated with transmitting diseases to humans.

Tick bite care: Proper care for tick bites includes careful removal of the tick and cleaning the bite area with soap and water or rubbing alcohol. The tick should be placed in a clear bag or container for identification by a doctor. Patients should notify their doctor about possible tick bites to determine if antibiotic treatment is needed. Antibiotics may not be needed if the tick is not engorged with blood.
