Usually: No birth control method is 100% effective other than abstinence from sexual activity, hysterectomy, or menopause. However, most birth control pills are effective within the 1st cycle , & possibly within the 1st week . Most prescribers recommend using condoms or other backup during the 1st cycle if one really doesn’t desire a pregnancy
