Pain control: Probably will get very little relief from topical anesthetic, and it will wear off very quickly. Topical works by (key word) blocking pain pathways, but wears off very rapidly. Would be better to treat the cause. Discuss antibiotic therapy with the treating General Dentist or Oral Surgeon that will be doing the surgery.

DANGEROUS!: I'm very sorry to hear about your son. Considering the type of medications he is taking, he is in a compromised condition prior to getting his teeth removed. Many precautions are needed, and communication between his doctor and dentist. Please contact them to ensure he gets the proper solution for his infection. If a patient has uncontrolled diabetes, for instance, dental infection can be fatal.
