Gas/discomfort: True constipation in a newborn is not common. A baby feeding breast milk/formula should have soft/liquidy brown/green BM's. If you notice hard, clay like stool/pellet-like stool then take your infant to DR. Otherwise, normal babies may only poop once every few days. The crying may be due to gas. Try burping more frequently. Or change the type of formula. If BF, try eating less veggies or spices.

Change formula: Breast fed babies never have this problem, so baby must be bottle; Change to a predigested formula (Alimentum) r adding one tsp of organic prune juice in water of formula several times a day often helps; also probiotics aid in digestion. Donated breast milk would solve the problem.
