Triggers: A mask is a protective device. It will not usually trigger an asthma attack. Cold dry air, dust, pollen, and other environmental irritants are they most typical triggers for a child with asthma. The mask may actually protect against these as well, since he will be breathing warmed, slightly moist air. Make sure you wash the mask daily so that there is not mold or bacteria buildup.

Medication refills: Your son should take his asthma medications as per his asthma plan and avoid known triggers when returning to school. A yearly flu vaccination is indicated and avoid respiratory infections by wearing a mask, good hand washing and following the school policy on infection control. A virtual inbox consultation is available to review his asthma plan.
