What is the reason behind outer part of upper thigh swelling and pain?

Swelling,pain: I assume there has been no injury. Swelling in that area of the thigh is unusual. An abscess would have associated redness and tenderness. A muscle or bone tumor are other possibilities. You should be examined by a physician in view of the presence of swelling and pain. An xray will most likely be ordered.
