How to do range of motion assessment in pediatric.

Let them play: Honestly, give them stuff to climb on. Most of my neuro and musculoskeletal exam is done in the office by letting the children climb on and off the chairs and table. A child who can use my exam chairs as a "tunnel" has full range of motion.

Varies w each joint: Each joint of the limbs has a specific range of motion exam - and the spine range of motion can be assessed too. Some joints, such as the knee and elbow, are hinge joints which flex and extend. However the hips and shoulders have more motion - including flexion, extension, internal & external rotation, abduction & adduction. The spine has lateral bending, rotation, as well as flexion and extension
