A member asked:

Good morning, my niece who is 6 put a piece of flower in her ear last week, we couldnt remove it. yesterday she said ear was sore, today she says its fine. is it something that needs urgent medical attention? if yes gp or hospital?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Exam=yes, urgent=no: Foreign material like plastic/rocks/beads are less trouble than biologic material like flower stems/wood/food/etc. All should come out eventually but the biologic material can break down & attract germs/infection sooner. Some docs may have equipment to remove the stuff if the kid cooperates. Some will freak out during removal & need to have removal under anesthesia.Start with GP.
