See below: I asssume that your mother is in her 80s. The recommendation for people your mothers age with high BP and diabetes is to have BP of 140/85-90 or less- -I would see your doc, get screened for other conditions that raise BP- Use a portable cuff and monitor the BP for a couple of weeks-if still >140/90-diet changes and small amounts of medicine would bring into the 140/90 range-
