If she is overweight, she needs to eat fewer calories, typically by eating fewer starches. You want to encourage her to exercise and to take her diabetic medications regularly. Aside from the usual: It has been shown that diabetics excrete huge amounts of vitamin b1 in urine. You can prevent complications by giving her a supplement of thiamine (b1).
