HPV subtypes: Almost all warts, genital and otherwise, are caused by one or another subtype of the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). They are numerous and easily transmitted through direct skin or mucosal contact. Genital warts transmit HPV during sexual intercourse or other forms of genital contact.
