Allergy/dehydration: Excess mucus production is most common in the morning when we are somewhat dehydrated from not drinking fluids for 6-8 hours while we sleep. Try drinking a large glass of water upon rising. Mucus production can continue if you don't continue your liquids intake. Especially with dry foods like toast, sandwiches, etc. Allergies can also contribute to excess mucus production. Taking claritin can help
