A member asked:

I am 22weeks pregnant.....my gnae took blood test for hiv.....and they came back positive am still shocked so am thinking of getting a second hiv test?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Pregnant/HIV: 24yo female at 22weeks gestation with positive HIV. Kindly ask your doctor if the second test is confirmatory and can also seek for a repeat HIV test with another independent doctor purely for reassurance. Once the diagnosis is confirmed, you need to be placed on antiviral and plasma HIV RNA levels of pregnant women every 2 to 4 weeks until undetectable and then every 3 months through to term.
