Formication: Formication is the name for the skin crawling sensation. It can be accompanied by itchiness. Most commonly this is a paresthesia which is a nerve dysfunction. Nerve dysfunctions can be caused by anxiety, shingles, perimenopause, diabetes, drug/alcohol withdrawal, fibromyalgia, lyme disease, parkinsons disease, and skin cancer. Antihistamines (Zyrtec, Benadryl) can help. See a DR if they persist.
