Lip: Could be something you ate irritated the lip or perhaps a topical agent. Hot oar cold substances can cause some swelling. If you take a BP medication that is ACE inhibitor class that can cause swelling of the tongue or lips.

Angioedema: This may be a localized allergic reaction called angioedema which is related to hives unless you injured the lip or it's painful or reddened. If none of these are factors, take an antihistamine( benadryl causes drowsiness,claritin doesn't). Try to think of what could have triggered the reaction. Many times the cause is elusive. See your MD or an allergist as needed.
