My mother is 65 years old and has been taking keppra 3,000 mg a day. she suffers from seizures since she had a brain tumor removed 3 years ago. she has had a dry cough for 3 weeks now, no fever. can she take dayquil of nyquil to help with the cough?

Pharmacist: Ask your pharmacist for advice regarding possible interactions with these two medications. He/she will have access to much more information on this question. However I don't recommend using cough preparations with multiple ingredients while taking antiseizure medication as excessive drowsiness and confusion could occur. Perhaps a very light dose of Nyquil may be recommended,but check first.

Cautious: The Doxylamine in Nyquil or Dayquil and Keppra interact and can be associated with significant sedation. Look for product with dextomethorphan (Robitussin or Delsym for example) these do not interact with Keppra.
