Hemochromatosis & Fe: Ferritin is also a reactive protein which can be activated by infection, inflammation, or others. In most cases, ferritin alone is not used to diagnose iron overload. Iron overload is diagnosed when transferrin saturation > 45% along with elevated ferritin. Your very small elevated ferritin is unlikely the cause for your symptoms. Therefore, phlebotomy will not be helpful.
