Is ulcerative colitis completely curable?

The only complete : Cure is surgical removal of entire colon. But the course of the disease is highly variable. One can have quiescent disease for many years, even without treatment.

Yes: With a surgery to remove the colon (colectomy). But it may trade one problem for another, as after colectomy you can explain 4-5 stools per day, waking once or twice at night.

Probably not: Since this is considered an autoimmune disorder, having a colectomy, which as mentioned previously, is not a cure since this creates many complications, Given that the autoimmune process remains in place, there are lung diseases associated with UC which cannot be eliminated with a colectomy.

Yes!: Medical therapy can lead to long term remission and excellent quality of life but this is not "cured". Only the surgical removal of the colon and rectum can cure you of your ulcerative colitis and nearly completely reduce your life long risk of developing colon/rectal cancer.
