My toddler - 3.5 years old - just today developed a dry cough and has a temperature of 38.5. these are the only symptoms for now. is there a need to have him tested given his symptoms?

Observe: If he is breathing comfortably, rest at home, avoid contact with others and provide fluids. Monitor his temperature and provide Tylenol or Ibuprofen for relief. If the cough or breathing difficulty worsens, testing is indicated. Most children recover from viral illnesses within one week. The cough associated with COVID 19 may linger, and if there is concern re a contact, please test.
