DELAY IN ABSORPTION: The function of the colon is to absorb water. Your small intestine will take any where from 6 to 8 weeks to absorb the water and then stools will be semisolid. Once your 15 cm colon is joined to the intestine then it will take about 4 weeks for the 15 cm colon to take over the function and eventually the stools become solid
