Let him be: Babies develop sleep/wake patterns without your help in the womb & can do so after birth. If you must you can sit/sleep nearby since the premi experience leaves anyone on edge, but you do not need to assume responsibility for his sleep. He can sit semi or fully alert until he drifts into sleep while you sleep. You do what you need to so you can remain healthy. Baby will sort this out.
