Follow you doctor's: advice. If low on estrogen, protecting the bone strength is important. Period flow is not important on the contraceptive pill.

See your OB-GYN: The first question I would ask, is why (at 28 yrs of age) is your estrogen is low? Is it primary (something that you were born with) or secondary (due to disease or surgery). If you had your ovaries surgically removed, then the only way to increase your estrogen is by taking it orally, having a slow releasing implant placed in your upper arm, or by applying estrogen cream to your skin.
