A member asked:

Is a low dose oral contraceptive effective treatment for adenomyosis? does the estrogen in a pill such as alesse contribute to the adenomyosis spread?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Adenomyosis: Adenomyosis is the development of glandular material from the endometrium interdigitating into the smooth muscle of the uterus causing it to enlarge and often produce copious bleeding. Alesse is being used to try to control the heavy bleeding without using surgery as an alternative. This diagnosis is usually made at the time of hysterectomy via the pathological specimen.
