What are the dangers of keeping an eye that is damaged from glaucoma?

It varies: We typically do not removing an eye unless you cannot perceive light and it causes pain that cannot be relieved from medication. For eyes that have been irreversibly damaged from trauma, there is a role for removing it to decrease the possibility of an immune reaction to your other eye. However, these situations must be evaluated on a case by case basis.

Not many: In most cases, if you have lost vision in one eye from glaucoma, there is no reason to remove the eye. Unless your eye is painful, it is usually much better to leave the non-seeing eye alone than surgically remove it. The most important thing is to take very very good care of your remaining eye.
