Mites: I will answer in regards to dust mites, because you did not specifiy what mites you are asking about. Dust mites do not invide the body but some individuals become allergic to their fecal material. The body produces ige to it and a cascade of imunological events occurs that causes symptoms of nasal allergies, asthma and eczema.
