Im having surgery done to take out a iud & they are gonna use laparoscopy how long do it take for the anesthesia to wear off?

Quickly: For this simple procedure you more than likely will not be under long. The anesthesiologist will plan you medicaitions and time it for the wake up time. All things considered, you will more than likely wake up fairly quickly, usually as they take you off the table and going back to the recovery room. Wake up sleepy head!

Minutes: A general anesthetic shoudl take 5 minutes to be (responsive to stimulation), 15 minutes to be awake (open eyes on command) 30 minutes to be allert ( count to ten without stopping). If you have are given pain or nausea meds after anesthesia you may get sleepy from that but the anesthesia is long gone with little or no effect by 1 hour.

Not long: After laparoscopy a patient will usually awaken within the first 5 to 30 minutes upon arrival in the recovery room.

5 mins : Most patients wake up in recovery room and have no recall of even being in the operating room. If you have a short procedure you will wake even more quickly. The speed at which you become clear headed can be affected by the pain medications you are taking after the procedure.
