Good evening my 23yr old daughter has fine and big pimples along her cheekbones .have tried face washes and creams .i took her today to the dermatologist who put her on oratane.worried about the depression as side effect..has mild depression.suggest?

Consider other tx: Accutane is an effective tx for severe inflam acne, but it sounds like your daughter might have her acne exacerbated by hormones. If this is the case, one might consider an antihormonal regimen, esp if you are extremely considered about acute depression on top of the depression that she already has. It does take a while for either accutane or hormonal tx to work. I would ask your dermatologist

Talk to prescriber: Work on things to support mood, optimal nutrition, avoid inflammatory foods , dairy, grains and sugar. regular 9 hr sleep, optomize exercise, consider getting her in counseling to support optimal cognitive strategies
