A member asked:

Moderate abdominal pain 24 hours after upper endoscopy with no biopsy taken. is this normal? no other symptoms other than sore throat.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not normal: Postgastroscopy abdominal discomfort may be from gas buildup, but severe pain, especially with associated tenderness, would be concerning and would warrant an examination. If your distress doesn't show gradual improvement, contact your gastroenterologist. In the meantime drinking hot(not boiling) water helps break down intestinal gas so it will pass down to be rectally expelled.
