Strain: A strain of the neck muscles is treated with cold applications(20 minutes 4 times a day) for 48 hours and then switching to heat. If you can take them, anti-inflammatory medications like ibuprofen or naproxen can relieve pain. In cases with severe stiffness and pain on motion, wearing a soft cervical collar when up and about and/or while sleeping is used. A muscle relaxant can be prescribed.
