Local infection: A localized infection may be one cause. Avoid acidic foods and juices. Monitor for worsening and fever. Your dentist may perform an oral examination to rule out other causes.

Not without an exam: Could be burn, trauma, infection, etc. Has to be examined to be diagnosed. Avoid irritants (hot spicy foods, mouthwashes, toothbrush trauma). By the 3rd day should be beginning to fade away. If symptoms do not diminish within the next 2 days, call your Dentist for an evaluation/diagnosis/treatment plan.
