Sore throat??: New throat symptoms can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed), a cold or influenza (antibiotics usually not used), or from some other cause such as allergies, EB virus, irritants or acid reflux. Usually, a person sees the doctor if his throat is very sore, recurrently sore, seems to have weird symptoms, or symptoms that don't resolve quickly. ALT can rise in various infections.
