Specialist to check: If a younger, refluxing baby is already taking Zantac (ranitidine), getting burped, and being held upright often, the question becomes: is there good growth and no pain? If the baby is happily growing despite spitting every feeding, it may be ok to keep watching, but 8 months is a long time! A pediatric GI doctor can arrange for imaging studies and more evaluation to see how to solve this.

Cause: He may have an infection, check his temperature and please provide adequate hydration. Clear liquids include Pedialyte, continue to nurse and avoid dairy. There are medications to control the vomiting, but the underlying cause should be determined. Abdominal imaging and possibly a head ultrasound may be performed. Blood work includes blood electrolytes. Please see pediatric urgent care or the ED.
