PrimaryCare Dr helps: Insomnia has many causes, so an evaluation by one's doctor is needed, plus Sleep Study can evaluate for sleep apnea. Getting rid of a problem causing insomnia will usually work, but sometimes no cause is found. Doctors may give medications to help fall asleep and stay asleep. Depression, anxiety, hormonal imbalances, pain, medicines, ambient noise, tinnitus, jet lag, etc... all can cause insomnia.

Insomnia: Difficultly falling asleep is more associated w/anxiety. Waking very early more associated w/depression. Please start w/family doctor. If offered meds, please consider adding behavioral treatments such as biofeedback, clinical hypnosis (www.asch.net) and psychotherapy. Nutrition and exercise important also. Peace and good health.
