Hip pain: Common hip problems presenting in the teens would be slipped femoral epiphysis, avulsion fracture, osteomyelitis. Uncommon conditions but possibilites could be leukemia, osteoid osteoam, Ewing sarcoma or Osteosarcoma. Simple laxity in the hip causing subluxation common.

Hip pain at age 16 ?: Many pediatricians do not routinely test for hip dysplasia in newborns. This condition will not arise until teen years when greater physical activity may make it evident. Get a referral to an orthopedic specialist for x-rays to determine the cause.
