A 27-year-old female asked:

My 1 year old boy woke up very weak, his temperature was a normal 99.7 f in the morning when i took it. he is drowsy though and all he wants to do is sleep. his nostrils were blocked and he coughs to a point of throwing up. should i be worried?

Flu: At this time of year although no fever the onset of fatigue and cough would be suspicious for flu. Especially given things coming on so suddenly. That may be worth looking into.

Evaluation: He may have a viral illness and should see his pediatrician. Provide fluids, monitor for fever and nasal saline drops with gentle suction may relieve his congestion and post nasal drip. Cool air mist for cough is another treatment that can be provided at home. He may not feel like eating solids at this time, but prevent dehydration with fluids.
