Quite a few options: For acne, benzoyl peroxide gel or cream is helpful. An antibiotic gel or cream such as Cleocin (clindamycin) gel is helpful. Retinoids such as Retin-A or Differin gels can be used with or instead of benzoyl peroxide. Oral antibiotics such as doxycycline can be used short-term. If acne is severe, Accutane can be used for a set number of weeks. Whether or not acne "returns" varies among patients.
