Not really: Strep throat is a lay term for a medical condition where strep has caused inflammation and fever. As many as 5% of the general population carry Group A strep in their throat continuously without becoming infected. This percentage can increase to 30% in season. It is the primary reason it pops up year round in those that are susceptible. Just being there is not a disease but a carrier state.
